Bush Administration

I thought this moment distilled the Bush administration into one, defining moment. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez is arguing that a resolution passed in 2001 giving the president a right to use force against terrorist organizations overrides the existing FISA law forbidding domestic wiretaps without court approval. Gonzalez said the two laws complement each other. In response, Pennsylvania Republican Senator Arlen Specter said, "Well, that just defies logic and plain English."

Gonzalez's response was that his explanation was, "fairly possible."
